Dolphin skin is a new beauty term used to describe a bright, luminous and fresh makeup look. Dolphin skin is the new concept of ‘slugging’, which refers to having a shiny, glass-like sheen, or actually wet, damp appearance.
To consult with skin care experts and learn their insights into ways to achieve glowing skin, Health Shots spoke with Dr. Monica Kapoor, celebrity cosmetologist and director of FLAWLESS Cosmetic Clinics and the ILACAD Institute.
Dr Kapoor says, “There are two ways to accomplish this look. One is with consistent skin care, and the most immediate way is how we apply makeup. It’s all about the glowing, glowing, super-radiant skin that defines these marine mammals. We can also recreate this look with makeup, but a great skin routine is a more permanent way to achieve it.”
Dolphin skin follows the trend of glass skin and the idea is to make the skin look luminous with a high voltage glow. The look really does involve using a few products and the trick is to build up the look by applying the products in thin, sheer layers.
“We can achieve dolphin skin by incorporating a handful of specific products into your skin care routine to give you a glowing look from within. The right skincare is key to getting the look. It’s about finding the right balance between hydration and exfoliation. Only well-exfoliated and properly hydrated skin will glow enough to mimic the glow of a dolphin’s skin.” says Dr. Kapoor.
5 ways to get dolphin skin:
We should always exfoliate the skin regularly, whether with a mild physical exfoliator or chemical. We can polish the dead cells with chemical exfoliation using AHAs or BHAs. Increases skin cell turnover, resulting in brighter, smoother skin.
To get dolphin skin, always use a hydrating cleanser daily. Double cleansing is considered a big part of the Korean skin care routine. The idea is to completely rid the skin of any oil, dirt and dead skin cells for better absorption of skin care products.
3. Essence and serum
After that, use a hyaluronic acid-infused face serum that will give your skin instant hydration and lock in moisture. Koreans also use a snail mucin essence on their skin to add that extra layer of hydration and elasticity to the skin.
4. Rich moisturizer
One of the most commonly used Korean skin care ingredients in moisturizers is cherry blossoms. These add moisture and impart a beautiful peach glow to the skin due to their rich antioxidant content. “You can add 2 drops of rose oil to your routine as it absorbs quickly and doesn’t get greasy and can even be used under makeup,” says Kapoor.
5. Non-mattifying sunscreen
Using FPS is non-negotiable, whatever your skin type. Choose a sunscreen that has a non-matte formula as we are focusing on glowing skin. Just choose the right formula for your skin type and complete your skin care routine with SPF.
6. Face oil
For an extra boost of hydration and that final layer of glowing glow, you can add a few drops of facial oil like jojoba oil or rosehip oil to your skin care routine. “People who have acne-prone skin or skin prone to congestion should avoid these essential oils,” suggests Dr. Kapoor.
Makeup Tips to Get Dolphin Skin:
- For a more instant effect, use a wet primer on the skin before applying makeup. So, we should follow with a moist and very illuminating foundation.
- Highlight high areas of the face and avoid using powders or mattifiers, as the goal is to shine. Even the blush should be cream-based.
- If someone wants powder, use a shimmering, hydrating face powder to maintain the shine.
- After that, at the end, use an alcohol-free setting spray that is not too dry. Look for a shine-setting spray to complete your look and add a sparkly shine.
But ladies, don’t forget that healthy skin is more important than any beauty trend. And for that, the starting point is a healthy diet, rich in good fats and sources of omega-3. Don’t forget to throw away your smartphone and have a long beauty sleep!
