Hair and skin care is a recurring challenge, especially when it comes to seasonal transitions. Skin and hair reflect changes in harmony with the seasons; consequently, our self-care routines also demand change and adaptation. From what seems like limitless tips and tricks on how to successfully adapt your summer beauty routine, we decided to share some tried, tested, simple and effective skin and hair tips with you!
To help us with this, Namrata Reddy, skin care expert and co-founder of Satliva, spoke with HealthShots about the many risks our skin faces with the seasonal transition. She also shared ways to deal with the effects of summer heat on your skin.
Here are some skin and hair tips you should follow in the summer season:
1. Use a sunscreen
Prolonged exposure to the sun’s strong UV rays can cause sunburn. They also have the ability to penetrate the outer layers of the skin and access the deeper layers where they can easily damage and kill skin cells. “Using a sunscreen cream with ingredients like red raspberry can help protect your skin from UV rays and prevent various skin problems like inflammation and acne,” says Reddy.
2. Take a few minutes to hydrate
A moisturizer can go a long way in protecting your skin during the summer. Nourishing and healing damaged skin is just the beginning. Try getting your hands on a moisturizer with hemp seed oil. It helps retain the skin’s natural moisture and prevents excessive oil production – two essential qualities for harsh summers.
3. Modify your diet
Consuming the right foods is a must during the summer. Include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet. “They contain essential vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that increase collagen production, reduce inflammation and protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun,” adds Reddy.
4. Don’t neglect hair care
Both UVA and UVB rays can damage the outer covering of the hair shaft, known as the cuticle, causing dullness and breakage. A simple way to avoid this is to use a styling cream, preferably with nourishing ingredients like argan oil and peppermint. These ingredients protect hair from UV damage, moisturize the scalp and promote hair strength.
5. Apply a nourishing shampoo
Most store-bought liquid shampoos contain various chemicals, upgrading to a shampoo bar can prevent a lot of hair damage. Using a shampoo with activated charcoal can help rid your scalp of impurities and strengthen follicles, protecting your mane from the harsh summer sun.
With the scorching summer sun just around the corner, your skin and hair are the first and most prone to damage, so protection and prevention of physical suffering and disease is imperative. These 5 tips will guide you safely and peacefully during the most rigorous summers!
