As we get older, there are a lot of problems that women start to see, especially on their face. Aging is inevitable, but proper care and advanced anti-aging treatments can make you look young and glowing. The two main problems women in their 40s suffer from are sagging and loss of volume. In addition, there are wrinkles on the forehead and the sides of the eyes that give the face a tired look.
However, certain scientific advances have made anti-aging treatments affordable and effective as well. To learn more about them, HealthShots spoke with Dr. Parag Telang, Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, based in the UAE and India.
“This loss of volume causes the face to droop. The options for restoring volume are HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers, which are a gelatinous substance or our own fat. These HA fillers last for 10 to 12 months and slowly dissolve in the body and need to be done again. The fat stays for at least 3-4 years and it also greatly improves the skin texture!” says Dr. Telang.
Sagging and its anti-aging treatment:
Sagging happens as we age due to the loss of tissue tonicity. There is a constant process of skin sagging that starts from the age of 30 and increases as we age. The last treatment option for sagging correction is the use of COG wires. These threads are made from a dissolving material called PLA that lasts for 1.5-2 years. This wire lifting is done under local anesthesia and only needs 2-3 days of recovery.
“For advanced sagging of the face in older people, we have to do a surgery called a facelift and a neck lift. This gives a very good improvement in facial appearance and makes a person look 15 to 20 years younger. Although surgical procedures have a 3-4 week downtime for recovery, the result lasts for many years,” says Dr. Telang, who is also the Director of the Designer Bodyz Center for Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, Mumbai.
Wrinkles and their anti-aging treatments:
Wrinkles are caused by the action of specific muscles. These can be eliminated by injecting botulinum toxin (Botox) into specific areas. Keeps you looking fresh and young for longer. It can also prevent or delay a facelift for decades – especially when combined with a good sunscreen and skin care regimen. This remains effective for 6-8 months and then needs to be repeated. These injections are very safe and give good anti-aging effect due to wrinkle loss.
Nano fat and PRP for anti-aging:
The latest advances in anti-aging are nano-fat injections and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP Microneedling along with PRP Rejuvenation. The treatment boosts natural collagen, which helps to firm skin, fine lines and sun damage. It was a game-changer for patients in their 40s who want a long-term investment in skin health. Our own fat and blood have many regenerative cells.
“In the Nano-Fat treatment, a small amount of our fat is removed with a tiny needle, it is processed and the concentrate is injected into specific areas of the face to improve wrinkles, sagging and dark circles. Likewise, our own blood can be processed to obtain platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and injected into specific areas of the face for an anti-aging effect,” says Dr. Telang, a specialist plastic surgeon licensed in DHA and HAAD.
Threads Apt for collagen production:
Aptos wires are a great treatment to rejuvenate the skin. When placed superficially, the threads act as a support system for thin or sagging skin while promoting collagen production. The strands can also improve redness and brown spots. In addition, strands can be placed anywhere on the face, neck or chest. In combination with deep strands, which lift without adding volume, they can make a huge difference to skin over 40.
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing is another of the most popular anti-aging treatments. This treatment literally erases wrinkles. It helps treat sun damage and collagen formation and gives you more beautiful skin. Helps skin look younger after 40.
There are many advanced laser treatments, facial tightening machines like HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and Ultherapy which also give good effect on sagging skin. Ultherapy works best for loose skin on the neck and jaw that is just starting to sag. It is an ultrasound treatment that tightens existing collagen and promotes the growth of new collagen. It has zero downtime. Some patients repeat the treatment every one to two years to keep the skin tight and firm. Which treatment is suitable for a person can be verified by their cosmetic plastic surgeon and a personalized treatment plan can be made for best results.
