Alia Bhatt wins hearts without makeup at her summer wedding! Follow these tips for oily skin

Our hearts soared when we saw Alia Bhatt as the bride! Ranbir and Alia’s most anticipated wedding has finally happened and photos are circulating and buzzing everywhere. Dressed in their ivory outfits, the couple looked very much in love. Another thing that caught our attention was Alia’s daisy-fresh look. We can’t stop falling in love with her minimal makeup and glowing skin. If you’re looking for a similar look for your summer wedding, we’ve got a skin care routine to prep your oily skin before the big day.

To get an idea of what can give us effortlessly perfect skin, HealthShots spoke with skin care expert Karan Bhaskar.

Here are 5 simple and effective skin care tips to keep your face fresh like Alia Bhatt:

1. Clean properly

Do not increase the frequency with which you wash your face. Even though it seems to be a natural thing, washing your face frequently dehydrates your skin. This stimulates the sebaceous glands, causing them to produce more oil. It is enough to clean the face twice a day with a gentle face wash. For the rest of the day, use a face mist or mild toner to refresh your skin.

Likewise, avoid excessive exfoliation. Excessive exfoliation can result in redness, scaling, erosions and discoloration. “In extreme cases, scarring can occur. The same goes for facial brushes with sonication; do not overuse them as they can increase acne and oil production in some people. Once a day is enough. A gentle chemical exfoliator or toner is an excellent way to remove dull layers of skin,” says Bhaskar, consultant at Clinique India.

2. Hydrate

It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your skin glowing and hydrated is key to fighting oiliness. When you don’t moisturize your skin, your sebaceous glands are forced to produce more oil to make up for the lack of moisture. So, to keep your skin hydrated, use an oil-free moisturizer. Alternatively, use a moisturizer with SPF.

3. Keep your skin care routine basic

Use lighter serums and sunscreens instead of doing a 10-step skincare routine. Cleanse your face in the morning with a face wash containing sulfur or alpha-hydroxy acid. “Alpha-hydroxy acid washes are gentle chemical exfoliants that brighten skin tone. They also help prevent pigmentation caused by UV exposure during the summer. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, a sulfur face wash is recommended,” says Bhaskar.

Apply an antioxidant-rich serum next, followed by a zinc oxide sunscreen. An antioxidant-rich serum protects skin cells from UV, infrared, visible light, heat, and even environmental factors that can cause harmful free radical production.
Meanwhile, a zinc oxide-based sunscreen is recommended because it provides broad-spectrum sun protection and is naturally anti-inflammatory. Additionally, Bhaskar suggests replacing your night cream with a moisturizing serum. And pamper your skin with masks and peels for the summer.

Sulfur masks are excellent for decreasing sebum production. Charcoal masks, on the other hand, can effectively remove skin impurities. To control oiliness, use salicylic acid peels if you have acne-prone skin.

4. Remove any excess oil

Blotting papers can quickly absorb excess oil from the skin. They’re also inexpensive and small enough to fit in a purse. Blotting paper is basically your best friend when it comes to summer skin care. Plain tissue paper can also be used.

5. Bridal makeup must be sweat-proof

The most suitable makeup for brides with oily skin is sweat-proof makeup. The idea is to use waterproof products, such as waterproof eyeliner, mascara, or long-lasting makeup.

“Alia Bhatt uses makeup products that allow her skin to breathe. This reduces the possibility of sweat, oil and dirt getting trapped. Choose lightweight primers. Likewise, replace your regular foundation with an oil-free light to medium coverage alternative,” says Bhaskar.

6. Avoid products with a heavy emollient base

Avoid applying emollients during the summer as they are more likely to cause excess oil production and breakouts. Also, don’t try too many skincare products before the wedding. Take it one step at a time when it comes to taking care of oily skin. Try to stick to your usual skin care regimen rather than trying new products to avoid irritation or reaction.

These steps will help you achieve Alia Bhatt’s subtle peach glow without looking ‘fried’! Start this skin care routine almost 2 months before your wedding. Don’t forget to have a balanced diet and invest your time in working out at least 3 times a week.
