5 fun alternatives to exercise to lose weight

Clap your hands if you like to exercise! Now, while some would have already clapped, some might say that even clapping is too much work for us. Most people don’t like to exercise, and believe me when I say you’re not a ‘lazy bum’ for not wanting to do it. You just need to find something that you completely enjoy. It’s hard to be consistent with something you don’t like. If you enjoy your workout, it won’t take you long to get back to it every day. So, let’s get to know some fun alternatives to exercise.

According to a study by the market intelligence agency Mintel, only 37% of Indians actually exercise and many of them say they don’t like it.

5 fun alternatives to exercise

There can be a hundred interesting ways you can replace a gym routine. But here are five fun exercise alternatives that will help you get at least a minimal workout daily to help you stay happy and healthy.

1. Dance

If you like, dancing with your heart is one of the best ways to burn some calories. You like the dance, you like to make expressions, you like the music, and you can even sing along. Doesn’t it feel like the happiest 30 minutes of your day? I’m sure yes. By varying estimates, dancing for an hour burns about 400 to 500 calories. Not bad, right?

2. Sports

If you are a sports fan and you love everything about sports, this is the best way to exercise while having fun. You can choose any game like basketball, cricket, badminton, football, swimming, etc. Indulging in a 30-60 minute session will help you break a sweat. So what are you waiting for? Just call some friends and get started!

3. Walk and talk

According to Harvard Health Publishing, 40-45 minutes of brisk walking can burn up to 400 calories. It is a myth that walking is a leisure activity and that only ‘aunts’ do it. If done correctly, walking can be a very effective exercise technique. But some people might find walking alone boring, so turn on some music or ask a friend to walk and talk with you. You will finish your exercise while you gossip.

4. Video games

Well, that might seem like an odd option because your moms are scolding you for going out and playing games instead of playing video games all day. But we’re not talking about remotely controlled or online video games. We’re suggesting an Xbox with a Kinect sensor (a type of motion sensor) that helps you play games as you would throw them away. This is the best method to get your kids to exercise in these times of Covid-19. Safe, fun and physically strenuous all at the same time!

5. Hang out with friends

No, don’t just go out with friends, but go with them to places where everyone can exercise. This will help you not miss your workout, even on weekends when your friends pressure you to hang out with them. You can all go to an arcade, ice skating rink, bowling alley, ball machine, golf, or even a trampoline park for a workout! What could be better than doing some exercise without even realizing it?

So, no more excuses now. With these fun alternative workout ideas, it’s time for you to get up and move!
